Calcutta Run 2022

SOUTHERN LAW ASSOCIATION
CORK CALCUTTA 5K FUN RUN/WALK
Sunday 29th May 2022 10.30am

Dear Colleagues,

The Calcutta Run, is an annual Law Society event which began 24 years ago in Dublin raising money for the homeless. An incredible €4.6 million has been raised since then, which has helped countless homeless people both at home and abroad.

This will be the third SLA Cork Calcutta Run – a 5km fun run/walk to raise money for 2 very worthy Cork homeless charities – SHARE and The Hope Foundation. With a huge turnout from the Solicitors, staff and their families and friends from the firms making up the Southern Law Association, we have raised nearly €20k in our first two events, which was divided equally between the 2 charities. We hope to have an even bigger and better event this year!

The Cork Calcutta Run takes place this year on Sunday morning 29th May 2022 in Blackrock. It is a 5km walk/fun run, and suitable for all ages and abilities. It will be followed by a BBQ in the grounds of Blackrock National Hurling Club. We hope to make this an annual social event for the SLA, while also raising funds for these two great charities.

While there is a competitive element for some runners, it is also a 5km fun walk and we would expect as many walkers as runners to take part ! All profits from the event will go 50:50 to SHARE and The Hope Foundation. We would ask all members of the SLA, your family and friends to take part in this event (including your 4-legged ones!) making it a fun day out for all, while supporting a very worthwhile cause.

The route takes place largely on the Old Blackrock Railway line and this year the run will be chip timed. Bib collection and late registration will take place from 9am to 10:15am at the Blackrock National Hurling Club, Church Road, Blackrock. There are changing facilities and ample parking available. Participants will walk from there to the start and finish line.

Refreshments will be available in Blackrock National Hurling Club after the event to include a BBQ, which is free for all event participants.

While the Dublin event has a fundraising target of €120 per person, we in the SLA just want our members to take part, with their staff, families and friends (including their 4 legged ones!) and support the event, making it a fun morning for all, while supporting two very worthwhile Cork charities.

We would ask each participant to make a contribution of €20 per person, with a family rate of €50. Registration to take part is online in advance, with further details to be posted in the coming weeks. Contributions can be made on your sponsorship card, which will be posted to you following registration. We would also encourage firms to match the amounts raised by staff members, which will all go directly to SHARE and The Hope Foundation. Registration details will follow shortly.

Sponsorship cards with monies can be handed in on the morning when collecting your race bib at Blackrock National Hurling Club or can be sent to the SLA Office, Courthouse, Washington Street, Cork. Cheques should be made payable to the Southern Law Association.

PLEASE SUPPORT THIS WORTHY EVENT !

Many thanks,
Regards,
