Guidance and Ethics Committee of the Law Society of Ireland

A Guide to Good Professional Conduct for Solicitors

I am writing to you in my capacity as Chair of The Law Society’s Guidance & Ethics Committee (the “Committee”).

The Committee is currently reviewing and updating the booklet on professional conduct for solicitors in Ireland, called the Guide to Good Professional Conduct for Solicitors (the “Guide”). This booklet provides guidance to the profession on best practice on matters of ethics and conduct.

As noted in the January 2021 issue of the Gazette, part of my remit as the current Chair of the Committee is to oversee this project with the intention of launching the updated edition to the profession this Autumn.

In line with the Law Society’s Green agenda, the Guide will be available in digital format to all Solicitors, but a hard copy of the Guide will also be available to members on an opt-in basis. Individual members must opt-in to receive a physical copy of the Guide, otherwise the Guide will be made available in PDF format. Further information will be circulated and available on the Law Society website once the opt-in facility is live.

It is hoped that the updated Guide will provide a valuable reference for all practitioners. Whilst its publication will be widely advertised, I would be most obliged if you could also inform your members directly of its availability in both hard and soft copy format. Most importantly, your assistance in publicising the opt in facility would be very much appreciated.

With kind regards

Justine Carty
