Law Society – Can we help? Problems with TWSS and EWSS

Dear Colleague,

I am contacting you with a roundup of member supports available from the Law Society to you and your members. Please share the attached which includes registration details for the small practice information sessions as well as a  list of Wellbeing and Financial Supports.

Eligibility Criteria Problems for TWSS and EWSS

Practitioners have contacted the Law Society about problems with Revenue and about how eligibility rules for the Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme (TWSS) and the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme (EWSS) are being applied.

Many legal firms have long lead times with the work they do. The relationship between orders coming in and income receipts in law firm varies widely and is complex. TWSS and EWSS eligibility rules should properly and fairly take account of how a drop in the demand for legal services (as a result of the covid-19 pandemic) is evident in the legal profession.

The Law Society is seeking to gather information about difficulties being encountered by legal employers with these schemes – and with decisions that do not seem to be reasonable. Employers who have run into difficulty with Revenue about their eligibility for TWSS and EWSS are asked to email information to Keith O’Malley (Head, Support Services, Law Society of Ireland as soon as possible k.omalley@lawsociety.ie All information received will be treated in strictest confidence. Keith can also be contacted by telephone at 086 388 8185.

Kind regards

Michelle
